Website design today requires a number of skills, from initial designs, through to implementation and build, whilst also paying attention to usability, accessibility, and search engine optimisation - all of which are required to make a website successful. Creating a website for a client usually involves a good deal of education whilst managing their expectations - sites like Amazon and eBay don't become successful overnight!

Neverfail Server demonstration

Brief: To design a Flash demonstration for sales personnel

Solution: A text document was provided which outlined the storyboard for the demonstration. Key requirements were that the demonstration must be clear, easy to understand and functionally must have 'video recorder' style controls for pausing the demonstration, and for moving between sections.

One of the things I learned from this project was that not everybody can read at the same speed! I had to slow the whole thing down a number of times after feedback from colleagues and the client.

Santa ClausRooftop Madness (christmas game)

Brief: To design a Christmas game to promote the @New Media design team..

Solution: This Flash game was good fun to work on - my first serious attempt at using Actionscript for something 'useful'. Actionscript was my first real introduction to the world of programming - part of this project included setting up a high-score table for players of this game that used ASP to read and write data to an SQL database.

Other flash games: The game engine used for the Rooftop Madness game was also used in a number of other games simply by changing the graphics and the orientation. I also produced a small number of other games as training exercises in Flash.
